Our volunteers make a hugh contribution to our New Hanover Public Libraries.  In 2005 library volunteers gave more than 12,598 hours of their time, a gift to the community worth more than $200,000.

There are still many opportunities and needs for library volunteers to fill.  No matter what your expertise or interests are, there is an important niche for you.  Northeast Library needs volunteers at the technical desk to assist the stream of patrons using computers.  The Audiovisiual Department at the Main Library is looking for volunteers for special projects.  Each branch library needs help making telephone calls to let borrowers know they have books to pick up.  Around 100,000 library books are borrowed each month in New Hanover County, and each library branch needs help reshelving returned books.  If you can repair books, put out new magazines and newspapers, and file old ones, we need your help.

If you would like to help call Anne Langan 509-1379, Ruth Ann Southworth 686-5166 or the Friends of the Library Office at 798-6319.
