Fall Book Sale Success

Our fall 2008 used book sale earned a record $50,642. This amount is 14 per cent more than our income from the fall 2007 sale. It also represents an almost 4 1/2 per cent increase over the spring 2008 sale.

Our two semiannual book sales this year earned a total of $99,137. This is 20 per cent more than in 2007.

Our income from 51 sales in 25 years totals $587,177. The income from our last 9 sales, since the introduction of standard prices in the fall of 2004, is $311,814, an average of $34,646 per sale and more than 53 per cent of the total income from all 51 sales.

The books and old magazines in the Rare and/or Collectibles section earned nearly $675.

Books left at the end of the sale went to a charity, Home of Hope India, and a local National Guard Unit to be shipped with them to Iraq.

The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library commends the many new and veteran volunteers whose hard work made this sale such a success. We also thank our members, donors and customers whose contributions make our successes possible.

All income from these sales goes to the library for the purchase of new books and other materials, and in support of its programs and other activities.

About Us

The Friends of the New Hanover County Public Library (founded in 1976) is a membership organization that consists in supporters of the library, volunteers who contribute time and labor on behalf of the library and customers at the Members Preview of our semiannual used book sales. We advocate on behalf of the library's budgetary and other monetary needs. We raise funds in support of its collection, services and facilities. And we promote public knowledge of the library's indispensable contribution to the educational, economic and recreational lives of the citizens of New Hanover County.
