Organized in 1976 to raise funds to move the Main Library from the Wilmington Light Infantry Bldg. on Market Street to the Belk building where it is now. The Friends assisted in raising $1 million to help purchase the old Wilson’s grocery store which became the Northeast Library. The Friends support and represent the Library in the community. We urge county and state governments to continue and increase their support for libraries. We recruit and coordinate volunteers for all kinds of jobs that the Library needs done. We support children’s programs, Book clubs and other various physical needs. By selling used books obtained from the library and donations we have raised over $365,000 since 1983. Yes!
